. >> i just have to repeat, congress, you are terrible at your jobs. i really don't like working with you. we're going to talk a bit later in the show about everybody hates congress and what we can do about that. but as much as the public hates congress, you really get the feeling that congress' approval rating among president obama is in the neighborhood of negative 75,000 percent. and yes, numbers geeks, not a real number. but he seems really tired of working with these people. but there is a way in which congress, and particularly congressional republicans may actually be helping president obama out right now. everybody's always known two things about the cliff. you're almost certainly going to get more taxes in a deal after you go over than in a deal before you go over it. that's because after you go over the cliff, taxes already go up for everybody. so anything you do, any reasonable deal congress reaches, it will be a big tax cut. but the other thing about the fiscal cliff is you don't want to be blamed for going over it. it is going to be bad for the economy. it's bad for the count

of the tornadoes and the snow today we had a repeat of it. the tornado threat i don't think as big as yesterday but it is still there. further off toward the east as the line right here continues to push off toward the east. it is very unstable ahead of it. i will show you that throeat ina second. the blizzard going on near the ohio and mississippi river right there south of paduka. that's the bulls eye. it will continue to go off to the northeast. anywhere you see this yellow from parts of virginia to central florida could see windy conditions. we could see tornadoes. i think the bullseye of tornadoes is where this moderate risk is across south and north carolina. that will be later on this afternoon. we have blizzard warnings in effect. darker red is blizzards reduce visibility quarter of a mile. 3-6 inches in additional snow around the ped duaducah area. the bullseye will be well over a foot. coastal areas mostly rain. start with a little snow transitioning over to rain. you will be dealing with a lot of snow this evening and all day tomorrow. guys? >> rick, thank you very much. you have bee

in the hospital for at least 48 hours? >> well, that depends on the answers to a lot of questions that we don't know. i am affiliated with columbia. i haven't spoken to any of the doctors who are taking care of the secretary. but here are some of the things that are running through my head. it's unusual for somebody who's had a blow to the head to get blood thinners. the reason is when somebody falls and hits their head you're worried about bleeding into the skull, into the brain, like natasha richardson had. so the last thing you would want to do is thin their blood. so trying to figure out what could have happened here. she had some sort of concussion two to three weeks ago she fell and hit her head. at that point i'm sure they did some kind of brain imaging, a c.a.t. scan for mri to the head. at that point she must have had no bleeding or so little they were able to observe her outside. in the last few days she had maybe symptoms or routine c.a.t. scan or routine mri, and they saw a clot. this clot would have to be inside the brain tissue in one of the blood vessels. it

that on the ground? >> i don't think that tom cole has the constituency, although he's known as a reasoned member and close to john boehner, i don't think he has the stoitsy to follow him to avert this cliff. look, the last minute, as tom cole said, the deals come together at the last minute. the last minute was really before christmas. as a practical matter, that is how these deals come together each of the last three years of the obama administration, on the budget, on deficit, on tax cuts years ago. they came together before christmas. it's hard to see how this works out at this point, to tell you the truth. there is a conference call at 2:30 among house republicans trying to decide what to do. we expect the leadership to let the rank and file know what their plans are. the speaker is not in washington. we understand he is in ohio of his home state. the president has landed here back at the white house in washington. it's unclear exactly where they go from here. essentially what john boehner is saying, you go first, harry reid. harry reid is trying to jam mitch mcconnell into allowing this vot

in which many don't know and can't figure out whether they can rely on the fourth amendment to protect sensitive information that they routinely share with others for a limited business purpose. congress needs to act to preserve the fourth amendment's protections as they apply to everyday uses including routine use of the internet, use of credit cards, libraries and banks. absent such protections, individuals may in time grow weary of sharing information with third parties. i'm cognizant that this area of the law is complex. it's full of changes and full of instances in which we have to undertake a very delicate balancing act. nevertheless, much work remains to be done to ensure that the fourth amendment protections are here and that they are real and that they benefit americans and that they do so in a way that doesn't interfere with legitimate law enforcement and national security activities. we must not shy away from the task simply because it is hard. it is daunting, but it is possible and it is necessary. congress must act to preserve americans' constitutional right to be secure i
